Potential of Integrated Component-Driven Material Design to Improve Crash Box Performance

چکیده

The crushing of crash boxes is a complex phenomenon characterized by strong interaction structural and material properties. Many attempts to improve their energy absorption adopting one aspect resulted in unacceptable unprogressive bucking. Thus, special considerations are required for box optimization including both effects. In this study, the behavior analyzed new design approach introduced fulfill these requirements. Currently, components, processes, materials mainly developed independently. However, exploit full potential modern component design, integrative development work necessary. Component performance-based requirements corresponding local properties must be taken into account concurrently. work, component-driven presented, which local-material-property derived from simulations. This demonstrated use case quasistatically deformed produced out steel DP600 target “energy absorption”. finite element simulations were carried on box, improving performance based Heat treatment strategies afterwards experimentally validated (FE) extracted reveal performance. enables exploiting energy-absorption capacity while ensuring desired service component.
